Samsung Cell Phone Battery Explodes In Man’s Pocket

There are many problems associated with lithium-ion batteries. For example, these batteries tend to overheat, catch fire and explode. Despite these issues, we can see them in almost every electronic device people use nowadays.

A battery explosion incident took place last week, reported by the Associated Press. A man was carrying a Samsung smartphone in his pocket. All of a sudden, the battery caught fire and he felt as if something was burning in his pocket. The battery exploded so badly that it left a wound on the man’s thigh. According to officials, the battery was not in the smartphone when it exploded.

This incident occurred in South Korea, and Samsung is based in the same state. A local newspaper revealed that the Galaxy Note was the smartphone the man was carrying. This news is not confirmed, though.

Over the last year, this is the second incident in which a battery caught fire and exploded in South Korea, said the Associated Press. No investigation has been planned by the smartphone manufacturer.

Overheating is one of the most common problems associated with lithium-ion batteries. So far, several incidents have taken place where the batteries exploded and caused severe injuries to the owner. In a similar incident, a man was carrying a lithium-ion battery in his pocket. Suddenly, the battery caught fire. In 2009, a battery exploded and damaged the neck artery of a person, leaving him dead. In the past, almost all battery manufacturers asked their customers to return batteries with overheating issues.
