Cell Phone Tracking Helps Nab Myrtle Beach Robbers A tracking device led to an arrest of two men involved in a robbery of a 28-year-old woman at gunpoint in Myrtle Beach, Carolina.

The woman was at the parking lot of a Dollar General store at Dick Pond Road when a man with a black handgun emerged, snatched her purse, and tried to force her into her parked car. The suspect ran away after the lady screamed for help.

A tracking device allowed police to locate the woman’s stolen iPhone at a Rittenhouse area apartment complex and led them to Mitchell Deuntae Durgin, 21, who was in possession of the phone.

Following an investigation, the Horry County police later took Quentin Jamal Johnson, 18, into custody. Police Johnson was the one who robbed and poked a gun at the woman.

Durgin and Johnson, both from Myrtle Beach, are being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on charges of common law robbery and armed robbery in connection with the incident. Durgin is facing another charge of receiving stolen goods.

The Apple handset was returned to its owner.

An app, Find My iPhone, allows iPhone owners to enable remote location-tracking of their devices. Law enforcement officials can also apply for a warrant to obtain cellphone location data recorded by mobile carriers.
